- Dr. Joseph Mueller

Dr. Joseph Mueller started learning about orthopedics long before he ever went to medical school.

As an avid snowboarder and motocross rider while he was growing up, he suffered his share of injuries. In those days, he was the patient being treated by physicians who became his role models and mentors. Now, he’s the orthopedic surgeon, helping others regain mobility and strength after they’ve been sidelined by injuries or suffered from wear and tear on their joints.

“The most rewarding aspect of orthopedic surgery is taking away someone’s pain and getting them back to the activities they love,” Dr. Mueller says.

As a physician, Dr. Mueller strives to make a personal connection with his patients. He takes the time to ask them questions and listen to their stories, in order to have all the information he needs to make the correct diagnosis and to ensure that they feel comfortable with him. He approaches treatment with a holistic mindset and formulates a treatment plan that best fits each patient individually.

A native of Richfield, Wisconsin, Dr. Mueller enjoys the rural atmosphere of Portage and being part of a small town where he can build relationships with other members of the community. He also enjoys Portage’s proximity to his family, its nearness to state parks, and its location on the water.

In his free time, Dr. Mueller enjoys playing trombone in local bands, wakeboarding, playing golf and working on cars.
