Divine Savior Healthcare Celebrates Central Sterile Tech Week, October 9th—15th

What does a Central Sterile Technician do?

A central sterile processing technician is a medical professional who is responsible for the procurement of surgical supplies and equipment. Proper sterilization of medical devices, surgical instruments, supplies and equipment is the very critical job of a sterile processing technician today.

When it comes to training, they are trained in principles, methods and control of sterilization processes, as well as the cleaning, processing, packaging, distributing, and storing of sterile goods, instruments, trays and equipment.

Central sterile techs provide support to all patient care services in health care facilities. They are responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storing and distributing the medical devices needed in patient care, especially surgery. They assume an important role in patient care by preventing infections. They handle sterile supplies with a focus on infection control and aseptic techniques.

Surgeons can be confident that their instruments are sterilized and supplies are well stocked at all times. Patients can have their minds at ease regarding infections, as our central sterile techs place sterility as top priority.

Thank you, Central Sterile Techs, for all the hard work and dedication you put into the jobs you do every day. You are appreciated!
