MY STORY

"I view taking care of the family and the children as a collaboration, and together we work to take care of each other. Medicine is like a puzzle sometimes, and it takes more information to take care of someone than what you just find in a textbook."

— Dr. Cindy Henry

Dr. Cindy Henry is a Pediatrician who serves children of all ages in the greater Portage community at all stages of their development. Not far from Wisconsin, Dr. Henry grew up in Michigan in a small town similar to Portage.

Dr. Henry loves doing outdoor activities such as kayaking and hiking. One of her biggest accomplishments was hiking over 40 miles on her 40th birthday. Not to mention she's a big fan of Pooh Bear who lives in the Hundred Acre Wood!

Coming to Portage has brought Dr. Henry closer to her family and she looks forward to the sense of community joining the Divine Savior Healthcare team. As she explains "I learned from my first job after residency that a community hospital seems to offer more personalized care and I'm excited to be working with such a great team of physicians."

Her dad and the cardiologist team at the University of Michigan influenced her to pursue a career in the medical field. Dr. Henry elates, "I used to go to classes with my dad when he was in medical school and the cardiology team at the University of Michigan helped take care of me when I was little. I had one cardiologist who looked just like Yosemite Sam with the crazy orange mustache!"

If Dr. Henry would have pursued another profession she said she would have been a teacher. Although if being a chocolate connoisseur or professional coloring coach was a paid profession she would love to do that as well!

Dr. Henry completed her BA in Biology at the University of Texas in Austin. From there, she went on to pursue a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and from there, completed two internships; one at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia and the other, a Pediatric internship, at Wayne State University/Children's Hospital of Michigan.

She completed her Pediatric residency at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania and is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

In addition to these medical accomplishments, Dr. Henry is also Surface Warfare Qualified with the U.S. Navy.

"The most rewarding part of my job is getting to share with the children and their families in their healthcare and see them grow into health and hopefully happy adults," shares Dr. Henry.

Dr. Henry joins the Family Medicine team in Suite 108. To make an appointment, please call 608-745-4598.
