MY STORY

"Divine Savior Healthcare provides great medical care in a rural setting. It is clear that the hospital stands by its principles of respect, integrity, and professionalism and I'm so pleased to be a part of the team."

— Dr. Brenda Jenkin, OB/GYN

Dr. Brenda Jenkin joins our OB/GYN team where she and her partner Dr. Meredith Brawley bring compassionate and thorough care to our OB/GYN patients! "Joining the Divine Savior Healthcare team and the Portage community, I feel as if I am coming back to my roots," states Dr. Brenda Jenkin.

Dr. Jenkin grew up not far from Portage on a hog farm near Brandon, Wisconsin, and after completing her Doctorate she spent majority of her career practicing in urban settings such as Philadelphia and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It is the people the Dr. Jenkin enjoys most about this area and finds to be the most rewarding part of her career. She takes the time to get to know each individual patient and shows compassion in the work she does by being an avid listener.

Outside of work, Dr. Jenkin finds time to relax by knitting and reading. Dr. Jenkin thanks her parents who encouraged her independence, as she states, "they instilled a strong work ethic and sense that I could do anything I set out to do."

Dr. Jenkin shares her skills and positive work ethic with colleges and students and for the past two years she has won the Award for Excellence in teaching senior residents at the UW Hospital.

Throughout Dr. Jenkin's career, she has met many patients who have touched her life in such a positive way. "I recently saw a patient with uterine prolapse at the UW Hospital. She spoke limited English and was usually accompanied by her daughter, who did speak English well. She was very uncomfortable because of her ailment, but was very afraid to have the surgery needed to increase her quality of life. She made the decision to go through with it, did well, and had a good result.

"About a year later she came in just to tell me how much she appreciated what I had done for her. She told me then that I had made her feel completely at ease and that trust gave her the strength to have the surgery. At that visit, she shared with me her experiences during the war in Serbia, which were heartbreaking. She delivered her son on the floor of a bomb shelter with bombs exploding overhead. She came home with her husband, her daughter, and her infant, grateful to be alive," shared Dr. Jenkin.

Dr. Jenkin finished her Bachelors of Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and she received her Doctorate in Medicine from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Following medical school, she completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia.

She has been the recipient of many awards, has contributed to many professional publications, and has served on a variety of clinical and educational committees. Dr. Jenkin brings with her a passion for women's health at all stages of their life.
